Next game: Maleny vs. Coolum @ Maleny. Kick-off 12 midday.

The Maleny Show is almost upon us and it represents one of our main fundraising events of the year. The Football Club is running a food stall at the kiosk in sideshow alley (not our usual canteen) from 6am – 9pm Friday & Saturday 1st and 2nd June. As you can imagine we would love to see vast numbers of volunteers to make this year a success and fun for everyone. If you can spare some time over the Show weekend, or help with the clean up on Sunday morning, it would be most gratefully received. Proceeds of this fundraiser go back into the Club to buy and upgrade equipment.

Each team has been allocated a time to help with the stall and this requires a minimum of 3 people on each shift PLUS a person dedicated on the BBQ each shift.

Additionally we are looking for donations of cookies, biscuits, muffins, cakes or soups. All donations need to have an ingredients list attached and can be dropped off at the kiosk at training on Thursday afternoon or directly at the show stall on Friday & Saturday mornings. Could you also please let Alison (malenyrangerspublicity@gmail.com) know if you are able to donate, so we have an idea of quantities; just send an email saying what you are contributing and when.

Each team manager will be given a roster sheet to fill in and return by Thursday May31st; please let your manager/coach know if and when you can help and include your name/donation on this roster.

This year we will be running a special raffle to benefit long-time helper and much valued club member Tina Orr and her family. Tina has recently been diagnosed with a serious illness and will be spending a considerable amount of time in a Brisbane hospital undergoing treatment. As you can imagine, this puts a huge strain on her family both emotionally and financially and all proceeds from the raffle will go directly to her family to help with the costs involved. Please consider buying a ticket or two to help them out and aid in Tina’s recovery. Details of the raffle will be posted on the website shortly.

On Friday the 11th of May Maleny’s Women’s team ran out on to a mist shrouded pitch to take on a fast improving Cooroora and recorded a 2-2 draw.

With changes to the team line-up Maleny soon had Cooroora on the back foot, and a passage of play starting on the left found Manisha Yamaoka free in front of goals to register Maleny’s first goal. 10 minutes later Cooroora equalised with a well taken volley from 30 metres out.

With the introduction of Lesley Watts into the game Maleny attacked again, and it was not long before a good build up and passing game by Stephanie Reid and Sarah Lowthian found Lesley on the right for Maleny’s second.

Mid way through the second half Cooroora managed to equalise and then played for the draw.

In a very good team performance mention must be made of the work of Sophie McIntyre, keeper Kate Woolston, and Jessica Teagle.

Saturday May 5 saw Maleny travel to Coolum to play in a match with both teams playing no subs.

Maleny started at a slow pace but  were the first to score, followed by a goal from Coolum and the half time score stood at 1-all.

The second half saw more life from Maleny who had possession for the most part but were unable to convert their opportunities against a determined Coolum keeper and a second goal from Coolum sealed Maleny’s fate with a 2-1 win going to the home side.

Next game: Maleny vs. Bribie at Maleny @ 3pm.

The boys came up against a strong and well organized team when they versed Buderim on the weekend and suffered a big defeat. This score didn’t reflect the level of play from our boys who had some good shots at goal which were ably deflected by Buderim’s strong back line and goal keeper.

Maleny played some great football, particularly Jondalar who took out Man of the Match for his tireless effort throughout the game.

The team will now need to regroup in readiness for next weekend’s match against Caloundra.

With the sun shining and perfect autumn temperatures, Maleny under 15 Girls put on a display of football that had the crowd in raptures! With a cheerful group of Maleny parents and supporters, our girls played a superbly exciting game against a confident Maroochydore team. The day started well with all players ready on time and the boisterous crowd of happy supporters, coffees in hand, ready to urge them on. And urge them on, they did!

Saturday was a truly exciting game with jaw dropping action throughout and plenty of positive vocal support from both sides. Parents were on the edge of the Maleny “stadium” seats as both sides scored impressive goals, attacked with fervour and defended with steadfast determination. The game teetered with drama between the highs of goal scoring and then, falling behind. With roughly one minute until full time, it seemed Maleny was going to have to be content with a game well played and a draw of four all. That is until Eireann Devlin kicked the final goal of the match leaving Maleny with a 5-4 win just before the whistle.

Maleny Mixed Magic played against Beegees on Saturday.

Maleny started out well scoring 3 goals early on but Beegees took up the challenge and answered back. Both teams played well and never gave up.

Maleny’s goals were scored by Alastair, Taylor and Mitchell. The final score was 6-5, with a win for Maleny. Well done team.
