The Roar blow up soccer field was a huge success with young and old alike, with organized games to keep everyone entertained. As always, the jumping castle proved popular with the younger members.

Thanks to everyone involved in planning, setting up and running the day’s events and to all the club members and their families for making it a day to remember.

Congratulations to all those who won awards on the day and during the season, for their efforts both on and off the field. We look forward to seeing all our players, coaches and managers back next season and welcome new members to our club.

Saturday September 10th was a big day for our Maleny Rangers U16 girls team as they made the trip to Maroochydore for the Grand Final against Bribie Island.

Having received the Premiership Trophy for finishing the season on top of the ladder, only 1 loss, a lot was expected of our girls. A massive turnout from

Maleny to support them was a much welcomed sight.

In the most blustery windy conditions we have ever played in we knew it was going to be a tough game. The Maleny girls hit the field with intent and the battle began.

The tackling was intense and we knew that speed and passing was to be our natural game. Bribie Island took control of the ball early in the first half and tried very hard to convert this to goals. Molly Erickson and our defence stood up and made sure nothing got through. The first half concluded nil all.

The second half began with Maleny all fired up and as soon as the whistle was blown, we took control of the game. Our strikers, wings and mid field worked magic keeping the ball low and passing. Our first goal! This was put away by Ruby Donohoe but was a testament to team play. Spirits much bolstered, the play got a lot harder as Bribie struggled to even the score. Summer McGladrigan soon put a stop to that with a beautiful goal getting past their goalkeeper. The game wasn’t over, but our girls were on top of the play. With 5 minutes to go, an injured Sarquin Hunt took to the field and almost scored a third goal! The game finished with a 2 – nil win to Maleny.

Special mention must also be made of Mary-Anne Bryce who played the game with a totally bandaged hand due to taking the top off her finger!

We also acknowledge the help of the U14 girls and their parents who have supported us and played for us this season.

At the medal ceremony, Molly Erickson was awarded the Player of the Game, congratulations. None of this would have been possible without our coach Grant Erickson and the support of parents and the Maleny Rangers Football Club. We look forward to a great season again next year!

As was expected, both teams hit the field, intent on a win. With gusty winds and splatterings of rain the girls had to pull out their best play, and they did.

With Summer McGladrigan rejoining us after injury, the team worked some passing magic and Summer scored a wonderful goal before half time. This immediately bolstered their confidence and the second half saw some big kicks, beautiful passing and solid defence. Kawana weren’t about to give up and kept attacking our play with ferocity which saw an answering goal scored. The game continued until a free kick was awarded to us and Mary-Ann Bryce scored a most amazing back of the top net goal.

This cinched it and the game was ours! The Maleny girls played a very hard game and should be very proud of themselves!

They are now to play in the Grand Finals this Saturday, 10th September, 12.30pm at Maroochydore. Please come and support our girls!

The U16 girls played a close, hard fought match against Bribie, at Maroochydore, in torrential rain. There were many near goals by both teams and the goalies are to be commended for doing so well in these conditions. Unfortunately the girls suffered a defeat on this occasion with a 1-0 loss to Bribie but they’ll have a second chance at the finals when they play again next weekend.

The girls have held on to top place on the ladder all season and the highlight of the day was receiving the trophy as U16G/2 Premiers for 2011.

After an unsettled start to the season, it was sweet to see the U14 boys step onto the field on Saturday to take their place in the semi-finals. It was a wet and muddy battlefield but a determined team took control of the match early on to keep possession for the first half. At half time the score was locked at 1-all. Buderim came back strongly in the second half, catching Maleny off-guard and scored 3 in a row to put the score at 4-1 in Buderim’s favour. After another goal it looked to be all over but in the last few minutes Maleny scored 2 quick goals bringing the final score to a 5-3 win for Buderim. Both teams are to be commended on their great sportsmanship and behaviour throughout the match. Buderim now go on to play in the preliminary finals on Saturday, at Caloundra.

Another great game for the boys on Saturday, when they came up against Buderim for the third time. After one defeat and one draw, at their last meetings, their improvement was evident with a fast and furious game which ended in a 3-1 victory to Maleny. Both teams put their heart and soul into the game and we were treated to some fine football. The boys now have two more matches to play before the semi-finals. On Tuesday night they will travel to Bribie Island and on Saturday they play at Caloundra.

Hard work and great football over the past week has seen the U14 boys’ secure fourth place on the ladder. Special mention to Alistair and Frazer for some awesome play and much anticipated goals! Keep the pressure on boys.

After winning three games in a row, the U14 boys couldn’t quite make it four when they came up against the top side at Maroochydore on Sunday. The half-time score was 1-0 to Maroochydore and although Maleny upped the ante in the second half, with several attempts at goal, the score remained at 1-0 at the final whistle. The boys’ next game is at Maleny on Tuesday 2^nd August at 6:30pm when they will come up against Caloundra in what should be a fast and hard fought battle. Go Maleny!!!

The girls continued their unbeaten streak with a 6-0 win over Buderim on the weekend. This sees them remain at the top of their division. Great work girls!
