The 17th Annual Masters ‘Super Oldies” Football Tournament was held at Buderim Ovals on 4, 5 & 6 November. 25 mens teams competed along with 10 womens teams from all over Australia. The womens competition started 4 years ago and has proved to be extremely popular, combined with the mens there were over 700 players and 400 spectators.
The womens team ‘PINK PANTHERS’ made up of players mainly from the Maleny Rangers Football Club, came away with the ‘GOALIE OF THE TOURNAMENT TROPHY’ awarded to Natalie Hyde.
“Our team has won this trophy 3 out of the 4 years that we have played, which is a fantastic result, said Serena Brejcha, Team Manager of the Pink Panthers.
The mens team ‘BLACK PANTHERS’ also from the Maleny Rangers Football Club with players from Rockhampton & Bundaberg to lend a helping hand, was successful in achieving the ‘FAIR PLAY TEAM AWARD’, another great result especially since this is the teams first year of playing in the Masters.
A big thank you goes to Bob Smoothey – Coodinator and all committee members for organising this event each year for us oldies to showcase our ‘football skills’, to get together with old friends and make new ones!!
