Mens Div. 4     Maleny 2 v Coolum 2

A depleted squad travelled to Coolum on Friday to face a side with a similar record, so on the face of it a draw should have been a fair result. At half time neither side had broken the deadlock, with chances falling at both ends. It was Coolum who came closest with a shot brilliantly headed off the line by Sam Hall. Sam Hunt, up the other end for Maleny, caused the Coolum defence problems with some excellent dribbling and close control.

The second half saw Maleny deservedly take the lead through Paul Alister and it was Rahn Stokes who capped another fine performance to make it 2-0 with an audacious strike from 35 metres out.

With minutes remaining Coolum were thrown a lifeline from a deflected, long range effort that wrong footed the unfortunate Pollock. Buoyed by this Coolum pressed and were awarded a penalty when Sam Hall was adjudged to have handled the ball on the line. The penalty was duly converted, leaving Maleny wondering how the victory had been snatched from them.
