Women Triumphant

Maleny Women's Soccer TeamFriday evening saw the Maleny Rangers Ladies division 3 team make the trip north to Cooroy to play new club Cooroora United on its home ground, and to come home 1-0 winners.

From the first whistle both teams played hard in an attempt to dominate their opponents. Maleny’s defence played a very tight and unforgiving game keeping Cooroora’s key player out of the game, also keeping their Goal keeper and Captain Kate Woolston a very happy lady.

With no score on the board and the chances fairly even, after 30 minutes Elle Hughes was brought off the bench and introduced into the game. Elle soon made her presence felt by being in the right place at the right time to slot away what would be the only goal of the game.

The second half opened as the first with both teams having their chances, but when Cooroora was given a penalty for a hand ball in the box, it looked bad for Maleny, but a rushed shot saw the ball sail over the crossbar. Maleny forwards and wingers worked well, supported by good deliveries from the midfield.

After 80 minutes play all were glad to hear that final whistle. In an all round good team performance best on ground must go to left defender Annemette Markwort.
