Maleny u/13 girls played their first match of the year against Kawana and lost 1 - 3, now it was Kawana’s turn to travel to Maleny for the return match . Having played all the teams once Maleny’s recent improvement could be put to the test now. The Maleny girls came out firing and prepared for a fierce battle, both teams realised that important competition points were up for grabs. In the first half Maleny had several opportunities and were on the attack for most of the half, Ruby continued her great season and scored the only goal of the first half to give Maleny a 1 - nil advantage.
Kawana came out attacking in the second half as the Maleny girls defended bravely. Austyn at goalkeeper made many saves and was supported well in defence by Emily, Emma and Luci. Despite the efforts of the Maleny defence, Kawana managed to take the lead with the first 2 goals of the second half. As the game was nearing the finish Ruby again broke through in attack and scored the equalising goal. Maleny was eager to score a winning goal and for the rest of the match they played with great determination. Kawana held out Maleny’s attack to fight out an exciting 2 - 2 draw. Player of the week was awarded to Austyn for a great game at goalkeeper.
