On Sunday the 15th of June, Maleny Rangers u/13 girls travelled down to Coolum to play Coolum White. This was a catch up game for the washout on the weekend of the Maleny show. Several players were unavailable having other commitments on a Sunday and we were fortunate to have the under 11 girls play at the same field before our game. Afrikah backed up for another game and agreed to play goalkeeper enabling Austyn to have a run in the midfield. Afrikah did a fantastic job as goalkeeper and after a slow start in which Coolum scored the first goal the Maleny girls rose to the challenge and played some of their best football for the year.
Maleny had most of the attack in the second half and many shots just missed. Ruby hit the top bar and on the rebound hit the bar again. Coolum were still trying very hard in the second half but Maleny’s defence was solid and Coolum were unable to get the ball past Afrikah. India had a great game and was rewarded with a spectacular second half goal, her first goal of the season and she also earned the player of the week award. Final score Maleny 3 – Coolum White 1.
