Sixteen parents successfully completed the Grass Roots Coaching Course at the Maleny Showgrounds on sunday 8th March. The response to the course was fantastic and more than compared with the attendance at larger clubs. Those that took part now have the necessary skills to coach junior teams or assist existing coaches. They are also able to help with the football development of their children. Thank you to those that participated.
Six of our Under 15 boys team successfully completed their referees course today. This means that we should have official linesmen for all home games this season. Our Club is proud of the boys and look forward to seeing them in action in 2009. They are : Adam Brown, James Haydock, Moacyr Lima, Andreas Easton, Nicholas Selman, Jesse Stanley.
Sunday the 8th February saw 24 club members descend on the Big Barrel Winery for the annual grape pick. The owner Michael Katsaras offered the club the opportunity to raise funds by participating in the annual grape harvest. Twenty four players, parents, grandparents and friends descended on the winery at 6-30 am and had picked the vineyard bare by 11-00 am. In total 3,500 kg of grapes were harvested. After the pick we were treated to a delicious lunch cooked by Michael himself and joined with the Greek community in celebrating the harvest. We had the opportunity to sample last years pick and some took part in the ancient tradition of stomping the grapes.
It was a very enjoyable day and we were extremely proud of the under 15 boys & girls who took part. They worked hard and despite the occasional grape thrown behaved themselves. Mike said after that it was the most efficient pick he has had since taking over the winery 5 years ago.
We have booked ourselves in for next year and if you were not involved this year put it on your calendar for next year.

IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN WITH THE FOOTBALL SEASON ONLY A MATTER OF WEEKS AWAY. YOUR COMMITTEE HAS KEPT REGISTRATION FEES AS LOW AS POSSIBLE THIS YEAR WITH ONLY A SMALL RISE DUE TO AN INCREASE IN FEES FROM SCF. MALENY HAS THE LOWEST FEES IN SUNSHINE COAST FOOTBALL WITH SOME CLUBS BEING DOUBLE.
WE HAVE INTRODUCED A DISCOUNT STRUCTURE FOR FAMILIES WITH MORE THAN ONE PLAYER. THOSE FAMILIES WILL PAY FULL FEES FOR THE OLDEST PLAYER AND RECEIVE A 10% DISCOUNT ON ALL OTHER PLAYERS. THIS IS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING EFFORTS IN 2008 WHICH WE HOPE TO MATCH IN 2009.
